Saldo: a budget planner that shows what's left until payday

Saldo (working name) is a monthly budget planner in design for iPhone and iPad. Log a purchase in seconds, and see, while you're still at the till, how much of your money is left until payday. No account and no ads.

Status: In design. Nothing is built yet; the pictures below are design previews.

The name, like everything else on this page, may change before launch.

No form and no mailing list: your email stays in our inbox, and we reply once, when the app is on the App Store.

The problem it solves

  • You want to know, while you're still in the shop, what's left to spend until payday, without doing sums.
  • You want to log a purchase in seconds, without typing a description for every coffee.
  • You want a budget for each kind of spending, and to see early when one is about to run over.
  • You want rent and bills counted every month, without entering them again.

Why we’re making it

If you’re paid once a month, the number that matters is what’s left until the next payday, and you need it at the till, not at home. Saldo is planned around that one number: log what you spend in a couple of taps, and the app keeps the rest of the month in view.

Planned features

What the first version is planned to do. Nothing is built yet, and the plan may change.

  • Log a purchase in seconds: the amount, then a tap on a category.
  • What's left this month, counted from the day your month starts, with a per-day figure.
  • A budget for each category that shows when you're under it, near it or over it.
  • Rent and bills that repeat every month on their own.
  • Insights by week and by month, and a trend that uses each month's own budget.
  • Sync through your own iCloud, and an export to CSV for a spreadsheet.

Who it’s for

People paid once a month who keep track of their spending by hand and want to stay on top of it day by day.

  • Someone paid on the 25th sets the month to start that day and checks the per-day figure before buying lunch.
  • A student logs a coffee with two taps at the counter and sees the eating-out budget turn to “near”.
  • A renter enters rent and the phone bill once, and every month starts with them already counted.
  • After a month of use, someone opens Insights to see which category ran over, then exports the month to a spreadsheet.
