Mimic Game: copy the sound, and the phone scores your copy

Mimic Game (working name) is a party game in design for 2 to 8 friends and one phone. A sound plays, you copy it into the mic, the phone gives your copy a score from 0 to 100 and says what was good, then you pass the phone to the next player.

Status: In design. Nothing is built yet; the pictures below are design previews.

The name, like everything else on this page, may change before launch.

The problem it solves

  • You want a game night that starts in a minute, without setting anything up or handing out cards.
  • You want everyone laughing at each other's copies, without anyone needing their own phone.
  • You want a score that says what was good and what to work on, not just a number.
  • You want to share the funniest copy afterwards, without screen-recording it.

Why we’re making it

Copying a sound is funny before anyone scores it. A score makes it a game: it gives everyone a reason to try again, and a short note on what was good gives the next try something to aim for. The plan is a game that needs one phone and no setup, so a group can start playing straight away.

Planned features

What the first version is planned to do. Nothing is built yet, and the plan may change.

  • Copy a sound into the mic and get a score from 0 to 100 that explains itself, such as “Great pitch, work on tone”.
  • Pass the phone: 3, 5 or 8 rounds, then a scoreboard and a podium.
  • Six sound packs of 20 sounds each: animals, everyday sounds, vehicles and machines, cartoon effects, whistles and tunes, and “say it like this”.
  • Share your copy as a vertical video clip.
  • A parrot host, and 12 animal characters for the players.

Who it’s for

Groups of 2 to 8 friends or family sharing one phone at a game night or a party.

  • At a game night, six friends pass one phone around, each copying an animal, a machine and a whistle, and after five rounds the podium shows the winner.
  • Two roommates play three quick rounds while dinner cooks, then share the silliest copy as a clip.
  • A host who wants the group playing in a minute opens the app, picks a character for each player and hands the phone to whoever goes first.

Languages and devices

The first version is planned in English. For iPhone and iPad.
